Overview

For almost 30 years the North of Sri Lanka was unexplored by the rest of the world. The tensions also lead to the picturesque East to be avoided. Visit the remnants of one of Sri Lanka’s ancient kingdoms before touring the North and East of the country while enjoying the costal highlights our little island of wonder has to offer. Itinerary

DAY 1

ARRIVAL

Upon arriving in Sri Lanka, transfer to a hotel close to the international airport. Relax and unwind after your flight, preparing yourself for the adventure ahead.

DAY 2-3

MANNAR

Mannar, where India and Sri Lanka almost meet, is situated on the north-western tip of Mannar Island. Once known for all year pearl fishing in the colonial era, Talaimannar now retains the charm and beauty of a coastal Sri Lankan town, filled with colourful fishing boats, an old pier and a stunning lighthouse.

HIGHTLIGHTS: Shrine of Our Lady of Madhu Church, Mannar Fort, Baobab Tree, Adams Bridge

DAY 4-8

JAFFNA

Jaffna is a city on the northern tip of Sri Lanka. Nallur Kandaswamy is a huge Hindu temple with golden arches and an ornate gopuram tower. By the coast, star-shaped Jaffna Fort was built by the Portuguese in the 17th century and later occupied by the Dutch and British. Jaffna Public Library is a symbol of the city’s post-war regeneration. Jaffna Archaeological Museum has Dutch cannons and pre-colonial artifacts.

DAY 9

KILINOCHCHI - MULLAITIVU

Mullaitivu is the main town of Mullaitivu District, situated on the north-eastern coast of Northern Province, Sri Lanka. A largely fishing settlement, the town in the early twentieth century grew as an anchoring harbour of the small sailing vessels transporting goods between Colombo and Jaffna.

DAY 10-11

TRINCOMALEE

Trincomalee is a port city on the northeast coast of Sri Lanka. Set on a peninsula, Fort Frederick was built by the Portuguese in the 17th century. Within its grounds, the grand Koneswaram Temple stands on Swami Rock cliff, a popular vantage point for blue-whale watching. The holy complex contains ornate shrines and a massive statue of Shiva. Nearby Gokanna Temple has panoramic views over the city and the coastline.

DAY 12

COLOMBO

On the final day of your tour, transfer to a City Hotel in Colombo. You can experience a city tour and shopping in Sri Lanka.

Cancellation

The cancelation policy would be applicable 25 days prior to the booking date, whereby the client will be charged 50% of the tour cost or the property applicable rate. 14 days prior to arrival would incur a 100% cancelation charge upon the booking or property applicable rate - including ‘no show’.

"We have had an amazing holiday in Sri Lanka. Our driver/tour guide was excellent, very friendly and provided lots of interesting information both on excursions and driving around. He seemed to go over and above what we would think would be expected of a tour guide and within the ten days we felt like we had made a new friend! "We spent 13 days on a tour of Sri Lanka with our guide Anton Almeida. The trip was incredible and made even better by Anton's knowledge of the history of Sri Lanka, deep understanding of wildlife and willingness to join with some of the tough hikes we did (e.g. Overnight Adam's Peak, Horton's Plains and Ella Gap). Travelling to a foreign country can have some challenges but Anton was always on time, gave great tips of stops while driving and the best places for food, massages and many other local experiences. Overall it was great and ask for Anton for any future trip you'll be sure to have a fun time!"

"This was our first visit to Sri Lanka, but we had such a great time I’m sure we will be back. This was in no small part due to the excellent arrangements made by Walkers, and our wonderful and attentive guide Janaka. I guess you never know what it’s going to be like to be ferried around for eight days by a total stranger, but Janaka wasn’t a stranger for long. By the end of day two it felt like we were being shown Sri Lanka by a mate – albeit one that happened to be particularly knowledgeable about the country, its history, culture, and wildlife! We had some great experiences in and around Habarana and Kandy, learned a lot of fascinating stuff, and had a load of fun in the process. Even Janaka learned something new – he certainly won’t be parking under a mango tree full of fruit bats again! How he got the car clean before morning we’ll never know… Our week or so’s site seeing flew by, but it teed us up nicely for Christmas and New Year relaxing at the beach in Weligama. So, thanks again to everyone at Walkers, but most especially to Janaka – in a place famous for its jewels, Janaka stands out as a little gem."

"We had a great 11 night Leopard Safari tour anound Sri Lanka. The driver/guide Hirantha was very polite couteous knowledgable and helpful at all times. Nothing was too much trouble for him. The car was always spotlessly clean and tidy inside and out. The hotels were good and the food was excellent. "
